The kitchen should be the most functional room in your house. Its primary purpose is to make food preparation and cooking a lot easier. So it should be setup in a way that would make those tasks a lot easier.
That does not mean that a kitchen needs to look drab or uninspired. There are ways that you can make your kitchen look interesting and attractive even. Here are some ideas on how you can make your kitchen a successful venture into renovation:
Paint it White- White is an excellent colour choice for your kitchen. It can make it immaculately clean which is always a good thing for a place where the food is prepared. You don’t have to worry about making your place look like a hospital or a lab, because there are many shades of white that you can use.
White can also make your kitchen look larger. Looking cramped and small is the usual problem with a kitchen because there are so many things that are crammed there.
Countertops- The busiest part of any kitchen is the countertop, where most of the food preparation activities is done. You need to pick the right kind of material for it. While functionality is an important factor, you can also look for elegance and style in the countertop that you are going to choose.
Carrara marble for example, is probably the most elegant stone countertop that you can use. There are other materials though that can deliver a variety of characteristics to your kitchen.
Islands- An island in the middle of the kitchen space is okay as long as there is still room to move around. Choose something that doesn’t look massive and squat and would not make your kitchen seem small and cramped. Be sure that you are going to use it as well or you are just going to waste the space.
Continuity- Try to be consistent with the design or theme that you have for the rest of your home. You don’t need to have the exact same things but it’s enough that people will see the connection. It’s not a good thing for someone to feel as if they are stepping inside a different house when they go to your kitchen.
Maintenance- It is a good idea to stay away from materials that are high on maintenance. These materials while they may look good would be difficult to maintain and would eat up a lot of your time. Stainless steel for example needs a lot of cleaning time in order to stay free from smudges.
Basics- Don’t buy the latest kitchen gizmo that they’re offering. Your place might start looking like an appliance store. It would be far better for you to stick with the basic tools that you need for cooking and food preparation.
Your Personality- trust me, you do want your kitchen to look like it’s a showroom. Try to pick furniture or a design that would reflect your own personality. That would be your own unmistakable mark.
